How to wear it
- A bow tie is essential for black tie, but a coloured or patterned bow tie looks equally refined with a blazer — or worn alone with a shirt.
- A bow tie should never be wider than your face: the points end approximately at the outer corners of your eyes.
- For black tie, wear black in the same fabric as your dinner jacket's lapels: silk with silk, grosgrain with grosgrain.
- Wear a bow tie with a spread collar or wing collar. With a wing collar, the collar points sit behind the bow tie.

- Tie it yourself: a bow tie that isn't perfectly symmetrical actually looks authentic and stylish.
- Adjust a pre-tied bow tie to your collar size before wearing.
- Pair a bow tie for black tie with a waistcoat or cummerbund to conceal your waistband.

How to tie it
The classic bow tie
It seems complicated, but it's the same knot as your shoelaces. Practice it once around your knee, and you'll master it at your neck.
- Place the bow tie around your neck with the left end approximately 4 cm longer than the right.
- Drape the long end over the short end and pull it up through the loop at your neck from below.
- Fold the short end in half to create a horizontal loop: this becomes the front of your bow tie.
- Let the long end fall straight down over the centre of that loop.
- Fold the long end in half and tuck it behind the front loop through the opening behind the knot.
- Gently pull both loops simultaneously and straighten your bow tie.

Je wast polyester het liefst op 30°C. Gebruik een mild wasmiddel en kies voor een fijnwas- of kort programma. Keer het kledingstuk binnenstebuiten en was met soortgelijke kleuren; gebruik eventueel een waszak. Gebruik geen bleekmiddel.

Je droogt polyester het veiligst aan de lucht, liggend of op een hanger. Wil je de droger gebruiken, kies dan voor lage temperatuur en haal het kledingstuk snel uit de trommel. Vermijd felle zon en te hoge warmte; zo voorkom je krimp en glansplekken.
Strijken: laag (1 stip) Binnenstebuiten Persdoek Stoom op prints
Je strijkt polyester op lage temperatuur (1 stip). Strijk binnenstebuiten en gebruik een persdoek om glans te voorkomen. Vermijd stoom op bedrukking of versieringen; vaak is uithangen al genoeg om kreukels te laten verdwijnen.
