Braces are a classic and practical alternative to a belt, especially under a suit or tailcoat. Choose from shades such as black, dark red, gold, off-white and blue and give your outfit a refined, timeless finishing touch.
Braces for Men
Braces keep your trousers in place without a belt. You fasten them to the waistband with clips, and the elastic stretches with you as you move. This way, trousers hang straight all day and never slip down. At GENTS you will find two types: slim, basic elastic braces in black and white, and 35 mm wide braces in colours such as navy, dark red, green, brown, gold, royal blue and off-white. All braces are adjustable, so you can set them at the right height.
Braces with a Suit, Tuxedo and Wedding
- A tuxedo is not worn with a belt: you wear braces instead, in black or white, over a tuxedo shirt.
- With a suit at a wedding, choose a colour that echoes your tie or pocket square, such as dark red or navy.
- A belt and braces are never worn together: it is one or the other.
How to Wear Braces
Adjust the braces so that the waistband sits at your waist rather than on your hips; this lets the trouser leg fall neatly over your shoe. Trousers with a high waist look excellent with braces. Keep your blazer buttoned and they stay out of sight. With your jacket off, they become part of your outfit, so choose a colour you are happy to show.
