How to wear it
- A bow tie is essential for black tie, but a coloured or patterned bow tie looks equally refined with a blazer — or worn alone with a shirt.
- A bow tie should never be wider than your face: the points end approximately at the outer corners of your eyes.
- For black tie, wear black in the same fabric as your dinner jacket's lapels: silk with silk, grosgrain with grosgrain.
- Wear a bow tie with a spread collar or wing collar. With a wing collar, the collar points sit behind the bow tie.

- Adjust a pre-tied bow tie to your collar size before wearing.
- Pair a bow tie for black tie with a waistcoat or cummerbund to conceal your waistband.

How to tie it
The classic bow tie
It seems complicated, but it's the same knot as your shoelaces. Practice it once around your knee, and you'll master it at your neck.
- Place the bow tie around your neck with the left end approximately 4 cm longer than the right.
- Drape the long end over the short end and pull it up through the loop at your neck from below.
- Fold the short end in half to create a horizontal loop: this becomes the front of your bow tie.
- Let the long end fall straight down over the centre of that loop.
- Fold the long end in half and tuck it behind the front loop through the opening behind the knot.
- Gently pull both loops simultaneously and straighten your bow tie.

Was je polyester op 30°C op een fijn of kort programma. Draai het kledingstuk binnenstebuiten. Was met vergelijkbare kleuren en gebruik weinig vloeibaar wasmiddel. Gebruik geen bleekmiddel. Bij sportpolyester: sla wasverzachter over. Een waszak helpt beschadiging te voorkomen.
Droog bij voorkeur aan de lucht, op een hanger of liggend. Mag in de droger op lage temperatuur. Haal het direct uit de machine om kreuk te voorkomen. Vermijd hoge hitte; dat kan de vezels aantasten.
Strijk op lage temperatuur (één stip, tot 110°C). Strijk binnenstebuiten. Strijk niet over prints of decoraties. Gebruik zo nodig een dunne doek tussen strijkijzer en stof.
