Je wast leer niet in de wasmachine en ook niet met de hand in water. Maak vlekken voorzichtig schoon met een zachte, licht vochtige doek of een speciale leerreiniger. Dep in plaats van wrijven. Gebruik geen bleekmiddel of agressieve schoonmaakmiddelen. Test een product altijd eerst op een onopvallende plek.
Je droogt leer niet in de droger. Laat het rustig aan de lucht drogen op kamertemperatuur, liggend of op een brede hanger. Houd het uit direct zonlicht en weg van warmtebronnen zoals radiatoren of een föhn. Breng het eventueel zachtjes in vorm terwijl het droogt.
Je strijkt leer niet. Heb je lichte kreukjes? Hang het in een vochtige badkamer zodat stoom de vouw ontspant, of gebruik heel kort lauwe stoom op afstand zonder het leer te raken. Leg nooit een strijkijzer direct op leer. Bij hardnekkige kreuk of vlek kun je het laten behandelen door een leerspecialist.
