Red silk tie with dots adds a subtle sheen.
How to wear it
- The tip of your tie should fall precisely at or just over your belt — neither above nor below.
- Match the width to your lapels: a narrow tie of 6 to 7 cm for narrow lapels, 8 to 9 cm for classic lapels.
- Choose your knot to suit your collar: a small knot for a narrow point collar, a fuller knot for a wide cutaway collar.
- A dimple just below the knot gives your tie depth: press it in with your index finger as you tighten the knot.
Do's
- Always button the top button of your shirt when wearing a tie.
- Choose a tie that is darker than your shirt.
- Combine patterns at different scales: a fine stripe with a large check.
- Untie your tie the same way you tied it after wearing and hang it up: this keeps the fabric looking its best.
Don'ts
- Never wear a tie that sits above your belt or hangs far below it.
- Don't let the narrow end show below the wide end: tuck it through the loop on the back.
- Avoid a glossy silk tie with tweed or flannel; choose wool, knit or grenadine instead.
- Never wear a tie and pocket square in exactly the same fabric and print — let them complement each other, not match.
How to tie it
Four-in-hand knot
Slim and slightly asymmetrical. Works with almost any collar and is the easiest to tie.
- Drape the tie around your neck, wide end on the right and about 30 cm lower than the narrow end.
- Cross the wide end over the narrow end to the left.
- Bring the wide end back underneath to the right.
- Cross it once more over the front to the left.
- Pull the wide end up through the loop at your neck from underneath.
- Thread it down through the front loop and slide the knot up to tighten.
Half Windsor
Fuller and symmetrical. Perfect with a wider collar and for a wedding or business suit.
- Drape the tie around your neck, wide end on the right and about 30 cm lower than the narrow end.
- Cross the wide end over the narrow end to the left.
- Bring the wide end back behind the narrow end to the right.
- Pull it up and through the loop at your neck from above, then down.
- Drape the wide end across the front from right to left.
- Pull it up through the loop at your neck from below again.
- Thread it through the knot at the front and gently tighten everything.

Je wast zijde het liefst met de hand in koud tot lauw water (max. 30°C) met een speciaal zijde- of wolwasmiddel. Dompel kort, wrijf niet en laat niet weken. Spoel voorzichtig en knijp het water er zacht uit; niet wringen. Gebruik je toch de wasmachine? Kies fijnwas/zijde, 30°C, lage toeren en doe het artikel in een waszak. Niet bleken. Professioneel laten stomen (P) kan ook.
Droog zijde niet in de droger. Druk het water voorzichtig uit in een schone handdoek; niet wringen. Leg plat te drogen of hang het netjes op, uit direct zonlicht en weg van warmtebronnen. Breng het kledingstuk rustig in vorm.
Strijk op lage temperatuur (1 stip, tot ca. 110°C), bij voorkeur binnenstebuiten. Gebruik een persdoek tussen het strijkijzer en de stof. Je kunt ook licht stomen om kreukels te verwijderen. Strijk niet te lang op één plek.
