By Maarten Verhoef

Once you've finally popped the big question (or had it popped to you), it's far from over. In fact, it's only just beginning! There's now everything to arrange for the wedding. For us men, that mainly means one thing: buying a wedding suit. That's why GENTS is sharing a few handy tips for buying a wedding suit today!
It's a tricky question every groom faces: what should I look out for when buying a wedding suit? The focus usually lies on the bride and her dress. Nevertheless, a beautiful wedding suit is just as important. So make sure you look perfect and stylish too. With the following wedding suit tips from GENTS, that will be a piece of cake. So settle in. First we'll give you all the tips. Then we'll explain exactly what we mean by each one.
5 tips for buying a wedding suit
- Take your time to explore
- Have your measurements taken
- Take your time choosing a wedding suit
- Choose a style, colour and fabric that suit you
- Don't forget the details
1. Take your time to explore
With the first tip for buying a wedding suit, we're stating the obvious: take your time to explore. A bride doesn't leaf through countless wedding magazines and bridal catalogues for nothing. It's mainly about knowing what's out there. Which trends currently apply to wedding suits, for example? What can you expect when you walk into a store with the aim of buying a wedding suit? You'll find all of that out by "preparing" well. What's more, it then becomes considerably easier to decide which suit will be your wedding suit.

During the exploration phase, also ask your partner what they would love to see you in. Check right away what your other half is going for. That way, you can take it into account from the start.
2. Have your measurements taken
The rule for every suit is that it must fit well. For a ceremonial outfit like your wedding suit in particular, the fit is crucial. That's why we at GENTS advise you to know your measurements well. Don't know them? Then have your measurements taken by a professional. This way you know exactly which size your trousers should be and which dimensions a blazer needs to fit you perfectly. Knowing your measurements well also makes it a little easier to buy the right wedding suit!
3. Take your time buying a wedding suit
A pitfall for many grooms is starting their search for a wedding suit too late. As a result, you end up short on time and have to make a rushed choice. Don't do that! We at GENTS advise you to take your time buying a wedding suit. Even better: make a day of it! Call the store beforehand to check when it will be quieter, so you won't be disturbed by background noise. Afterwards, you could also enjoy a nice dinner with a few friends after the fitting.
4. Choose a style, colour and fabric that suit you
When you're in the store or searching online, you'll quickly discover there is an enormous amount of choice. Wedding suits come not only in different colours, but also in a variety of fabrics and styles. We at GENTS recommend making a preselection in advance. That means thinking ahead about which style, colour and fabric best suit you and the occasion. It's also helpful to coordinate the colour with your partner beforehand.
5. Don't forget the details
Of course, the details, or accessories, are just as important as the wedding suit itself. So spend the necessary time finding the right details for your wedding suit. Think, for example, of shoes that match your belt. You'll also naturally want to wear a beautiful tie, with a pocket square that picks up one of its colours. And don't forget to think about jewellery. Will you be wearing your father's cufflinks, for instance? Or would you like to combine your classic watch with your wedding suit? Then bring them along to the fitting. That way you'll know exactly how you'll look on the big day!
