Shorter men take note: with these tips you'll look much taller!

How to Look Taller as a Man
If there's one thing you could change about your body, what would it be? Many shorter men answer this with: 'I'd like to be a bit taller'. When you try on a nice pair of jeans in the store, it turns out to be a few centimetres too long. Even in a beautiful suit, you don't feel comfortable because it seems to accentuate your smaller build. Does it bother you that you're the shortest man in your friend group? No worries! With our 7 styling tips for shorter men, you'll look a few centimetres taller in no time. We've listed them below for you:
1. A streamlined slim fit
Step 1 to looking taller: opt for a streamlined fit. Although you may be a fan of the oversized clothing trend, this isn't the perfect fit for you as a shorter man. With a slim fit shirt and trousers in a sleek cut, you'll look much slimmer and taller! Make sure the sleeves of the shirt or top are long enough, and your trousers are cut slim rather than wide. Leave the baggy jeans and oversized jackets aside and choose slim fit clothing. We'll admit: it's sometimes not easy to buy suits or trousers in your exact size. So visit a bespoke tailor who can make your trousers and shirts to measure for you.
2. Vertical stripes give you the edge
Wear a shirt, top or jumper with vertical stripes and you'll instantly look much taller. Avoid tops with horizontal stripes; these make you look wider and shorter. Can't bear to part with your previously purchased classic shirt with a horizontal stripe pattern? Then pair it with a slim-cut blazer. This way you'll avoid the shortening effect of a horizontal stripe.
3. Small patterns for a big effect
Are you a fan of prints? Then it's best to choose small patterns such as a shirt with a subtle check. Try to keep it understated with the amount of prints too. Large patterns and an overload of prints in your outfit will make you look optically smaller. Don't do it.
- Your best friend: the blazer
Your perfect partner from now on is the blazer. Make sure the jacket fits well and is neatly cut at the shoulders. A beautiful blazer creates extra arm length and accentuates the natural shape of your shoulders. Moreover, a blazer creates a slender waist and makes your chest look bigger, provided you button the top button of the blazer. Rule of thumb: choose a blazer with one or two buttons; a double-breasted button makes you look bulky. Also make sure the jacket is slightly shorter than average, so your legs look longer.
5. High-waisted jeans for a next level look
Are you a big jeans fan? Then grab a pair with a high-waist model at your next shopping session. Because the jeans sit just below your navel, your legs suddenly look metres long. Well, at least a few centimetres longer. For jeans too, the golden rule applies: skip the baggy trousers and opt for a straight fit to create even more optical length.
6. Final touch: the perfect shoes
Want to give your look a literal next level touch? Then choose shoes with a thick sole. The on-trend sneakers with a striking chunky sole are ideal for you. Don't such sporty sneakers fit the dress code at the office? Or do you have a party where smart attire is required? Then go for a classic lace-up shoe, or an Oxford shoe with a thicker sole. With these chic shoes you'll sneak in a few extra centimetres and you're guaranteed a statement look!
