Packing Your Suitcase: How to Prepare for Changeable Weather?
Now that summer holidays have begun, we're all heading out. That also means packing your suitcase and deciding which clothes to bring along. Of course, you're hoping for plenty of sunshine and pleasant temperatures at your holiday destination, but nothing is as unpredictable as the weather. It's therefore wise to be prepared for every weather type. However, bringing lots of clothing is impractical, as warm clothes are often heavy and take up considerable space. How do you prepare for different weather conditions without overpacking? GENTS gives you 3 practical tips!
Tip 1) Pack clothes you can layer
Whether you're heading to a warm country or staying in the Netherlands; the chance of bad weather is always there. Moreover, even in warm climates it can cool down considerably in the evening. That's precisely when it's nice to have something to throw over your outfit. So always pack a cardigan or lightweight summer jacket in your suitcase, so you're prepared for lower temperatures. A summer jacket for men is light, so you can easily bring it along. Plus, such a lightweight summer jacket takes up minimal space. Perfect for enjoying the outdoors comfortably even late in the evening.
Tip 2) Mix and match in different ways
To be well prepared for the weather, you don't actually need to bring much clothing. A few basic items are enough, especially if you make sure you can combine your clothes in various ways. With just three pairs of trousers and four shirts, you can create up to twelve different outfits. It's helpful to choose neutral colours as much as possible and limit prints, so you can easily mix & match the items. Also bring clothes that you can wear both formally and casually, such as a polo or shirt and smart shorts. If you further alternate between long and short sleeves and trouser legs, you'll be perfectly prepared for changeable weather.
Tip 3) Wear your heaviest items while travelling
You save space in your suitcase by already wearing your heaviest items on the outbound journey. Heavy clothing often takes up a lot of space as well. So pack your suitcase with your lightest pieces such as shorts, shirts and short-sleeved tops, and wear your long trousers, jumper and closed shoes for the journey. This tip is especially useful if you're flying, as it can get quite cold in the cabin. It's therefore nice to have multiple layers of warm clothing on. Plus, you avoid potentially having to pay extra because your suitcase is too heavy. Two birds with one stone!
