Well prepared for changeable weather

By Maarten Verhoef

You've surely experienced the problem. In the morning the weather is beautiful and you decide to dress lightly for the rest of the day. As the day progresses, the fine weather suddenly disappears and is replaced by thick cloud cover. Then an unexpected cool shower arrives. Subsequently the sun breaks through unexpectedly after all. How can you prepare yourself well for this changeable weather? The solution: wear an outfit with layers! GENTS explains in this blog how you can be well prepared for changeable weather.

In our low-lying country, it's not unusual for the weather to change suddenly. That doesn't make it any less annoying. So how do you prepare yourself well for such changeable weather? With your clothing you can easily protect yourself against it. How? By wearing layers. Put together an outfit where you have several layers on top of each other. If you do this smartly, you'll always look stylish - regardless of the changeable weather in the Netherlands. Do you find it difficult to prepare yourself well for changeable weather or are you not a star at wearing a layered outfit? In this blog GENTS gives you a few practical tips for every layer!

Layer 1. White t-shirt with crew or V-neck

You naturally start with the first layer. Make sure you have a t-shirt that you can wear under a shirt or jumper, but which also looks stylish when worn as the only layer. Always keep this shirt in a basic colour, such as white or black. Also choose a well-fitting shirt. The shoulder seams should fall on your shoulders. Furthermore, it's important that the shirt fits well, but doesn't cling to your body.

Layer 2. Casual shirt or polo

Then choose the second layer. This garment can be more striking than the other layers of your outfit. For example, go for a shirt with an eye-catching floral print, a casual shirt with a Mao collar or a shirt with a subtle jacquard pattern. Will you take off the shirt during the day? Then wear a non-iron shirt. Non-iron ensures that your shirt creases less easily. Another good option for the second layer is a polo shirt.

Layer 3. Warmth from a jumper, pullover, summer jacket or gilet

Especially when it cools down in the evening, this layer comes in handy. So use a light summer jacket, a smart jumper (pullover) or create a refined look with a gilet as your third layer. When you wear a striking print or colour in the second layer, make sure the third layer is more understated. This keeps the overall appearance of the outfit stylish.

A few more top tips

Finally, we have some tips that apply to every outfit, not just when you're wearing different layers. Make sure your clothing is always clean and pressed. Your clothing can be of the highest quality and look beautiful, but if it's not clean or unironed, you'll always miss the mark. Also wear clothing that suits your body type. A slim fit shirt combined with a burgundy belly doesn't look very chic and doesn't feel comfortable either. The same applies to a modern fit shirt if you have a slim figure. Buy new garments regularly that you can easily combine with what you already have. This way you easily avoid always wearing the same outfits.
