The Minions, as these little yellow creatures are called, have been appearing on the big screen worldwide since 2010. The latest film starring the Minions is The Rise of Gru, the film that has sparked this whole craze. The trend started with a single TikTok video under the hashtag GentleMinions. In it, you see Gen-Z'ers – the generation that grew up with the Minions films – heading to this movie in formal attire. Often with a banana as an accessory, referencing the Minions' favourite snack. The TikTok video was quickly picked up by other young people who recreated it, and since then #GentleMinions has gone viral.

Why this trend means you can't wear a suit to some cinemas anymore

The GentleMinions trend started in England, where various cinemas have since taken measures against it. In some British cinemas, it is now forbidden to wear formal attire to the film. The reason is that so many young people are now going to see the new animated film that other visitors are being disturbed.
