What are cookies and why are they necessary?
Cookies are needed, among other things, to make our shop work properly and to make it more user-friendly for you. Here is how it works: your computer, smartphone, or tablet saves small files when you use our website and/or app. One advantage of this is that we can recognize you and ensure that you do not have to fill in your details repeatedly. Do you not want cookies? You can always adjust your settings or delete cookies yourself. If you disable cookies, certain functions of our site will no longer work and the website and/or app may work less well. Giving or not giving permission For placing and reading certain cookies, we do not need to ask your permission. This applies to cookies that are necessary for communication via the internet, cookies that are only used to provide our services, or analytical cookies that have no or minimal impact on your privacy. For other cookies, we ask your permission before we place and read them. We do this through the cookie banner in our shop. It states that you accept cookies by continuing to click in our shop. Do you not want this? Then you can choose to go to another website or app with similar content. For tagging specific content of our shop, we use Google Tag Manager. This helps us determine which cookies we may place and which content we may keep. Because, as we explained above, for some cookies we must ask your permission and for some cookies we do not. When using Google Tag Manager, we adhere to the guidelines of the Authority for Consumers & Markets.
These cookies we use
Functional cookies
These cookies ensure that our shop works properly. Think of logging in, remembering information so you don’t have to fill everything in again, placing items in your shopping basket, and remembering your shopping basket. In our app, these cookies are needed for, for example, sending push messages or offering a chat with our customer service.
Analytical cookies
With these cookies, we measure and analyze how you use our shop and what we can change to improve your experience. Both on the website and in our app. For example, we measure how many customers use our app and which parts are most interesting for our visitors. We also use third-party software for this, such as Google Analytics, which we have set up in a privacy-friendly way. Good to know: the statistics and reports cannot be traced back to individuals.
Advertising cookies
We place advertisements on other websites and in other apps. To make these advertisements fit your interests as well as possible, we collect data from your visit to get an idea of possible interests. We can also use these cookies to keep track of which advertisements you have already seen, so you do not see the same banners repeatedly.
Interest and preference cookies
These allow us to remember your preferences and interests. This is useful because we can provide our website and app with information that is as relevant as possible for you. We try to tailor the website as much as possible to you. Moreover, based on your behavior, we can, for example, show articles in advertisements that we think suit you better, instead of articles you probably have less use for.
Social media cookies
These cookies are needed, among other things, to share the content of our shop via your social media, such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Pinterest. For the cookies placed by social media and third parties and the possible data they collect, we refer you to the statements of these parties on their own websites. Note that these statements can change regularly: GENTS has no influence on this.

Analysis and advertising partners
By using the above-mentioned Cookies, we can perform analyses and we and third parties can tailor advertisements and other content to your interests. GENTS works with various service providers for this, including providers of analysis systems and different types of advertising networks, as further explained below.
Each provider of an advertising network is responsible for its own part of the processing as a data controller. GENTS and the provider of an advertising network may also be jointly responsible for certain parts of data processing. If this applies, you will be further informed below. When there is joint responsibility, you can exercise your rights with each of the parties.
Google Analytics
By using the above-mentioned analytical cookies, GENTS can measure how the Website is used and how a user found the Website with the help of a web analysis system, such as Google Analytics. The web analysis system stores, among other things, the following data:
- the IP address minus the last block/octet (number after the last dot);
- technical characteristics such as the browser (the computer program used to view internet pages) and the operating system you use;
- from which page you came to the Website ("Referrer URL");
- the pages you visit on the Website;
- which functionalities you use on the Website; and
- when and how long you visit the Website.
Based on this data, visitor behavior is analyzed at an aggregated level to improve the quality and/or effectiveness of the Website for visitors and to better align it with visitors' preferences.
GENTS uses a Google Analytics feature that does not store your full IP address and does not allow Google to process this data for its own purposes. Google does not share anonymous data with third parties. Google may store data on servers outside the European Economic Area ("EEA"), such as in the United States. More information about data protection related to Google Analytics can be found in the Google Analytics Help (https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245?hl=nl) and in Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). Google Analytics is offered by Google Ireland Ltd., legally established at Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland.
Google Analytics Remarketing
If you have given permission for this, the above data can also be used to show targeted advertisements to "audiences" ("Google Analytics Remarketing"). Audiences are composed based on user behavior, for example: "people interested in luxury sunglasses". An audience consists of a list of cookie IDs or advertising IDs representing a group of users. This does not include directly identifying data such as your name or email address.
Google provides a Google Analytics opt-out add-on which, once downloaded and installed, disables measurement by Google Analytics on all websites a user visits. More information about this can be found via the following link: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=nl. You can also withdraw your consent for Cookies via the link “Cookie information & settings” at the bottom of the GENTS Website.
Google Tag Manager
GENTS uses Google Tag Manager to assign and manage so-called tags to (parts of) the Website. With these tags, we can better analyze your use of our website. This data is then used mainly for other Google services such as Google Analytics and Google Marketing Platform. Google Tag Manager itself does not collect personal data.
Google Tag Manager is offered by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, 4 Barrow St, Dublin, D04 E5W5, Ireland. More information about data protection can be found in the Google Tag Manager Help: https://support.google.com/tagmanager/?hl=nl#topic=3441530 and in Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy).
Google Marketing Platform
GENTS uses the Google Marketing Platform to optimize its marketing activities and advertise on Google's search engine platform and advertising network. The Google (Doubleclick) cookies and the Google Floodlight tag are used to make advertisements more relevant, track conversions, and assess the effectiveness of campaigns. For this purpose, data is collected via these Cookies about how you use our Website, such as which products you have viewed or added to your shopping cart. Google also uses a Cookie to track which advertisements have been shown to you and can thus prevent them from being displayed more than once.
The Google Marketing Platform is offered by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, 4 Barrow St, Dublin, D04 E5W5, Ireland. More information about data protection in the context of advertising via Google can be found here: https://www.google.com/policies/technologies/ads/ and in Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). Google may store data on servers outside the EEA. You can opt out of the use of Cookies by the Google Marketing Platform at: https://www.google.com/settings/ads/onweb#display_optout or by withdrawing your consent for the use of Cookies by Google via the link “Cookie information & settings” at the bottom of the GENTS Website.
Google Ads – Conversion Tracking and Remarketing
With the help of Google Ads Conversion Tracking, conversions from Google Ads advertisements are tracked. This ensures that involved parties receive adequate compensation after a Google Ads advertisement has been clicked, leading a user to the Website. By using Google Ads Remarketing, visitors to our Website who have previously shown interest in our products can also receive targeted advertisements on the Google search platform and the Google advertising network. These Cookies collect data about how our Website is used, for example, which products are viewed or added to a shopping cart. These Cookies also help assess the effectiveness of an advertising campaign.
Google Ads is a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Read more about Google Ads Conversion Tracking via the following link: https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/1722022?hl=nl and about Google Ads Remarketing via the following link: https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/1752338?hl=nl. More information about data protection in the context of advertising via Google can be found here: https://www.google.com/policies/technologies/ads/ and in Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). Google may store data on servers outside the EEA. You can opt out of the use of Google Cookies for personalized ads via the following link: http://www.google.com/settings/ads or by withdrawing your consent for the use of Cookies by Google via the link “Cookie information & settings” at the bottom of the GENTS Website.
Facebook Ads
We use Facebook Ads to show advertisements to social media users on Facebook and Instagram. Within the framework of Facebook Collaborative Ads, we can also collaborate with various brands to display product ads on Facebook. Using Facebook's pixel and Cookies, information is collected about how our Website is used, for example which products are viewed or added to a shopping cart. This information can be used by us or the brands we collaborate with to show targeted ads on Facebook to visitors of our Website who have previously shown interest in our products, tailored to personal interests. This pixel also tracks user behavior after seeing or clicking on a Facebook ad. In this way, Facebook evaluates the effectiveness of ads. Facebook can also use additional data collected by Facebook itself for GENTS so that we can show ads more targeted and relevant to a specific group of Facebook users (so-called Custom Audiences). We do not receive this information from Facebook. Facebook shares anonymous reporting statistics of the ads with us so that we can see how effective an ad campaign is.
GENTS, Facebook and the brands that GENTS collaborates with to display ads are jointly responsible for showing Facebook ads and the related reporting statistics. Read more here about the joint processing responsibility with Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/legal/controller_addendum Also read more about the use of joint advertising with brands via the following link: https://nl-nl.facebook.com/business/m/collaborative-ads and about how our partners handle personal data in their privacy statements: https://www.esteelauder.nl/nl/nl/privacy, https://privacy.loreal.com/NL/ and https://www.pvh.com/privacy-policy.
Facebook Ads is offered by Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, legally established at 4 Grand Canal Square, Grand Canal Harbour, Dublin 2 Ireland. Facebook is responsible for its own part of the processing as data controller, including transfer to third countries. Facebook may store data on Facebook servers outside the EEA and use data for its own purposes, in accordance with Facebook's Data Policy. Read more about how Facebook handles your data in Facebook's Data Policy: https://nl-nl.facebook.com/privacy/explanation and Facebook's Cookie Policy: https://www.facebook.com/policies/cookies/. More information about how Facebook processes your data when you use Instagram can be found here: https://nl-nl.facebook.com/help/instagram/519522125107875.
You can opt out of personalized ads from Facebook via the following link: https://www.facebook.com/adpreferences/ad_settings or by withdrawing your consent for the use of Cookies by Facebook via the link “Cookie information & settings” at the bottom of the GENTS Website.

Hotjar
With Hotjar, GENTS makes visitor behavior transparent. During your visit, for example, it is measured how long you stay on certain pages, which links you click, and what visitors do not use. This allows GENTS to build the best possible experience.
Hotjar uses cookies and other technologies to make this data insightful. The cookies collect, among other things, the IP address, device type, screen size, browser information, geographic location, and language. Hotjar processes this data to visually map the website visit.
