You surely know the problem. In the morning the weather is beautifully fine and you decide to dress summery for the rest of the day. As the day goes on, the fine weather suddenly disappears and is replaced by a thick layer of clouds. Then a cooling shower falls unexpectedly. Afterwards, the sun breaks through again unexpectedly. How can you prepare well for this changeable weather? The solution: wear an outfit with layers! GENTS discusses in this blog how you can be well prepared for changeable weather.
In our little country it is not strange if the weather suddenly changes. That does not make it any less annoying. How do you prepare well for such changeable weather? With your clothing you can easily protect yourself against it. How? By wearing layers. Put on an outfit where you have several layers over each other. If you do this smartly, you will always look stylish - regardless of the changeable weather in the Netherlands. Do you find it difficult to prepare well for changeable weather or are you not skilled at wearing an outfit with layers? In this blog GENTS gives a few practical tips for each layer!
Layer 1. White t-shirt with round or V-neck
You start naturally with the first layer. Make sure to have a t-shirt that you can wear under a shirt or sweater, but that also looks stylish when you wear it as the only layer. Always keep this shirt in a basic colour, such as white or black. Also choose a well-fitting shirt. The seams of the shoulders should fall on your shoulders. Furthermore, it is important that the shirt fits well, but does not cling to your body.
Layer 2. Casual shirt or polo
Then choose the second layer. This garment may be more striking than the other layers of your outfit. For example, go for a shirt with a bold floral print, a casual shirt with a Mao collar or a shirt with a subtle jacquard pattern. Will you take off the shirt once during the day? Then wear a non-iron shirt. Non-iron ensures that your shirt wrinkles less quickly. Another good option for the second layer is a polo shirt.
Layer 3. Warmth through a sweater, pullover, summer coat or waistcoat
Especially when it cools down in the evening, this layer comes in handy. Therefore, use as the third layer a light summer coat, a neat sweater (pullover) or create a refined look with a waistcoat. When you wear a striking print or colour in the second layer, make sure the third layer is more subdued again. This keeps the overall appearance of the outfit stylish.
A few more top tips
Finally, we have some tips that apply to every outfit, not only when you wear different layers. Make sure your clothing is always clean and ironed. Your clothing can be of high quality and look very nice, but if it is not clean or un-ironed, you will always miss the mark. Also wear clothing that fits your body type. A slim fit shirt combined with a rounded belly does not look very elegant and is also uncomfortable. The same goes for a modern fit shirt if you have a slender figure. Regularly buy new garments that you can easily combine with what you already have at home. This way you easily avoid always wearing the same sets.
