The pleasant weather is showing itself more and more, and that means the wedding season has begun! Most weddings take place when there is the greatest chance of good weather, namely between May and September. For such a special occasion as a wedding, a sharp outfit is of course appropriate. For which occasion are you buying the suit?
Of course, weddings are not the only occasion to wear a suit. Also at, for example, a ball, job interview, or funeral it is customary to come in a suit. When buying a men's suit, it is therefore good to consider the occasion for which the suit will be used. The dress code of a wedding is naturally different from that of a funeral. Are you buying a suit for the first time? Then it might be a good idea to buy a suit that you can use for several occasions. In that case, choose common colours that are easy to combine, such as a plain dark blue suit or a suit in anthracite colour. Dark blue and anthracite are suitable as a base for almost all occasions.
What size do you need?
A men's suit should fit perfectly, so it is important that you have the right size. So have someone knowledgeable advise you when trying on, or keep the following tips in mind when finding the perfect size:
The most important tip: Make sure the shoulder seam fits on your shoulders. The sleeve and trouser length can easily be adjusted by the tailor, but the shoulders are much harder. The shoulder seam should fall exactly over the shoulders to the point where your shoulders turn into your arm. Is the shoulder seam of your jacket longer than your shoulders? Then take a size smaller. Is the shoulder seam shorter than your shoulders? Then take a size larger.
Check if the jacket is wide enough by crossing your arms. Does the fabric pull on your back? Then take a size larger.
For the length of the jacket, it is nice if it just covers your seat. Do not let the jacket stick out below that.
Make sure the waistband of the trousers is not too tight. If the band is already tight when standing, it will pinch when sitting. The trousers should be easy to fasten.
