Packing suitcases: how do you prepare for changeable weather?

Now that the summer holiday has started, we are all heading out en masse. That also means: packing suitcases and thinking about which clothes to bring. Of course, you hope for as much sun and pleasant temperatures at your holiday destination as possible, but nothing is as changeable as the weather. So it’s handy to be prepared for any weather type. However, bringing a lot of clothes is impractical, because warm clothes are often heavy and also take up a lot of space. How do you prepare for different weather types without bringing too much? GENTS gives you 3 practical tips!

Tip 1) Bring clothes you can wear in layers

Whether you are going to a warm country or staying in the Netherlands; the chance of bad weather is always present. Moreover, it can cool down considerably in warm countries in the evening. That’s exactly when it’s nice to have something to put over your outfit. So always take a cardigan or thin summer jacket in your suitcase, so you are prepared for lower temperatures. A summer jacket for men is light, so you can easily take it with you. Moreover, such a thin summer jacket takes up little space. Perfect for enjoying the outdoors pleasantly late in the evening.

Tip 2) Combine in different ways

To be well prepared for the weather, you basically don’t need to bring a lot of clothes. A few basic items are enough, especially if you make sure you can combine your clothes in many ways. With just three pairs of pants and four shirts, you can make up to twelve different clothing combinations. It’s helpful to choose as many neutral colors as possible and limit prints, so you can easily mix & match. Also bring clothing that you can wear both formally and casually, such as a polo or shirt and a neat bermuda shorts. If you also alternate between long and short sleeves and pant legs, you are perfectly prepared for changeable weather.

Tip 3) Wear your heaviest items on the go

You save space in your suitcase by wearing your heaviest items on the outbound trip. Heavy clothing often takes up a lot of space. So pack your suitcase with your lightest clothing items like shorts, shirts, and short-sleeved shirts and wear your long pants, sweater, and closed shoes for the journey. This tip is especially useful if you are traveling by plane, as it can be quite cold in the cabin. It’s nice to have several layers of warm clothing on. Moreover, this way you avoid possibly having to pay extra because your suitcase is too heavy. Two birds with one stone!
